House-Autry Mills Hushpuppy with Onions Review

I haven't had hushpuppies in years so I was really looking forward to making these. I was also thrilled that these were onion flavored. Yum!

These were really easy to make because you just add water to the mix. The only thing I wasn't really sure about was the directions said to add 7/8 cup water. I thought it was an odd measurement. I actually had to look up the conversion for it because I didn't want to get too much and wreck it. So I found that 7/8 cup is equal to 3/4 cup plus 2 Tbsp. Once mixed it needs to sit for 5 minutes before frying. The dough smelled delicious!

We don't have a deep fryer which was what the directions called for but I just fried them in our cast iron skillet with no problem. It might have taken longer than a deep fryer but I didn't mind the lovely aroma coming from the pan. The addition of the onions really was an excellent idea!

The end result was delicious! Mine might not have been perfectly shaped but they tasted just fine. :)
